Editorial Standards

How BP Housing researches, reviews, and updates homeowner education.

Our editorial process is designed to make financial and home-equity information understandable without hiding important tradeoffs. These standards apply to the educational guides published on BP Housing.

Our principles

Seven standards guide our educational publishing.

Start with the homeowner’s question

Each guide is built around a distinct decision or question. We avoid creating multiple pages that merely repeat the same explanation with different keywords.

Prefer primary sources

When explaining financial-product mechanics, consumer protections, or documented risks, we prefer primary government and regulatory sources where they are available. Provider material may be used to understand provider-specific terms, but it is not treated as an industry-wide rule.

Separate facts from variable terms

HEI and home equity contract structures vary. We distinguish general concepts from terms that depend on a specific agreement, provider, property, or homeowner.

Include meaningful tradeoffs

We do not describe lack of a traditional monthly payment as the whole story. Our articles also discuss future settlement obligations, valuation, lien-related considerations, triggering events, and other material risks when relevant.

Do not promise eligibility or outcomes

BP Housing does not make approval decisions. We do not guarantee funding, eligibility, rates, provider availability, savings, or a particular financial result.

Review material changes before changing dates

We use visible publication and review dates. A page’s review date is updated when the article has actually been reviewed for current sourcing, accuracy, or material clarity—not simply to make the page appear fresh.

Correct errors transparently

If we identify a material factual error, misleading explanation, broken source, or outdated provider-neutral statement, we correct the page. Readers may report concerns to bpsharedhousing@gmail.com.

Publishing workflow

How a guide gets published.

Byline

Educational articles are published under BP Housing as an organizational byline. The About page explains who we are, and these standards explain how the guides are reviewed.

Review process

We start with a homeowner question, consult reliable sources, draft the explanation, check important claims, review the page for clarity and commercial separation, and publish it with source links and a visible review date.

Purpose

The goal is straightforward: a homeowner should learn something useful even if they never submit an inquiry. Referral activity is a separate business function.

Financial-content safeguards

Home-equity content can affect financial stability, so caution matters.

Our guides are general education, not individualized financial, legal, tax, or mortgage advice. We encourage readers to read the actual agreement, compare alternatives, ask the provider direct questions, and consult appropriate independent professionals when a decision may materially affect their home or finances.

We avoid presenting one provider’s calculator, multiplier, term, approval rule, or settlement formula as universal. When examples are used, they are labeled as illustrations and should not be interpreted as a quote or offer.

External standards we consider

Publisher and search quality references

Our editorial standards are informed by Google’s published guidance emphasizing unique, original, relevant, people-first content, clear authorship, strong sourcing, and a good user experience. These references do not constitute an endorsement of BP Housing.
